Some links to help

For those of us who can't join in on protests because of the pandemic, here are some helpful links:

Bail funds for various US cities

Minnesota Freedom Fund

GoFundMe for the family of Regis Korchinski Paquet

If you are able to go, remember:
  • Mask the fuck up.
  • Do your best to maintain physical distancing. Remember, the virus does not care whether you are protesting for a good reason or a bad one.
  • Don't post pictures of unmasked or otherwise identifiable people; this can be used to doxx activists.
  • Please be safe. <3

Yeah, I eel bad, because I was simultaneously thinking: look at all those beautiful children out there protesting (the kids kneeling en masse in LA!), and ALSO, oh my fucking ghod, the transmission rates are going to skyrocket, and Cheeto Benito is going to blame it on the Dems in the blue states and cover it up in the red states.

(-- And also bb protestors, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT WEAR A DISTINCTIVE SHIRT FROM YOUR OWN PERSONAL CLOSET. Wear something DARK, or if you can afford the $$$ go in on a group t-shirt WITH A SNAPPY SLOGAN, THERE ARE LOTS OF THEM OUT THERE, so someone can't identify "the person in the red shirt" from the fucken videotape.)

Not to mention, cover up those sweet ass unique tattoos. Better to overheat wearing long sleeves and pants in summer.

Layering long over short sleeves: always good, because if you get gassed/whatever, you can TAKE OFF THE TOP LAYER.

LOL if there isn't a "101 for bb protesters" on the internet already, the old crusties should write one.

There probably is. I remember around 2012 that those of us who were young at the time had lots of guides like this. I think not everyone would have come across them, though, I followed a lot of political tumblrs and so on. I don't doubt that kids these days have their own guides, though they might not always see them.

I think that regarding not covering up faces/tattoos, pandemic issues aside, some people might genuinely not care. If you're livestreaming or taking pictures, people on social media are already going to know you were there and maybe even know exactly where you were at a specific time.

Yeah, social media can both be a blessing (free/cheap way to organize people regardless of location!) and a curse (totally easy for giant media corp/law enforcement to track us now!). I am automatically suspicious of all social media, except DW, so I err on the side of "they'll probably sell us out."

Definitely! I think it just feels increasingly normal to think you're being tracked all the time now, it's surreal and I hate it. I'm mostly not on social media (I've got an FB that is 99% memes and don't even have the phone app installed) but I just sort of assume that everything I do online is being tracked, or what people associated with me or in my physical vicinity are doing. 2020!

SERIOUSLY, my husband finally got me to use a cell phone (for years and years I had a flip phone so I could call 911 or whatever) and I can listen to music! and text friends! and get weather updates! and blah blah whatever, and then sometimes I look at and I'm all, you would give George Orwell nightmares, you cute little thing.
