Critical support for oat milk.

Pros: Lowest carbon footprint, best texture
Cons: They only had the vanilla kind, which tastes good but I think I'd prefer no flavour in my coffee other than coffee

I used to make my own oat milk, back when I had time and before plant-based milks had really taken off.

Funny what [profile] davesmusictank says over on the LJ side: "unless you are lactose intolerant:" "lactose intolerance" is a nod by omnivores to mean, "Okay, I get it; you can't drink milk. Case closed."

Oh, definitely; humans were never meant to drink the mammary secretions of another species, so it's an evolutionary trick that some humans have continued to produce lactase past the time they're weaned. I tend to think I'd get sick if I got some dairy milk by accident at this late date, but that's a good thing, IMO.

People here just couldn't contain themselves when Oatley hit the shelves here.

Oatmilk was probably my favorite not milk, until someone made the association for me with the flavor of milk at the bottom of the cereal bowl and that ruined everything. Also, I am a sucker for consumerism and I think the Oatley ads are hilarious.

I don't remember the texture so it must have been fine for me!

I hope you get Oatley soon. It tasted good!

Where did you find it?!

I found it in the UK, but whenever I ask at stores if they have it, people just show me goat milk. I tried making it myself, but it turned into oatmeal-flavoured Jello.

Oat milk is amazing! Unfortunately it's only available at one store here, and I'd have to take the bus or get a ride to get there, so I usually just get almond milk at the little store down the street from my job instead.

Only vanilla kind? Strange. I don't think they've seen vanilla oat milk over here.

The Swedish company Oatly claim that their's is the first ever oat drink.

I definitely find that it is the best plant-based milk substitute; creamy texture, avoids having too much of its own specific flavour that could clash with tea or coffee, and best of all, it doesn't curdle in coffee.

I love it. It's pretty normal at supermarkets here, and a few cafes now offer it along with soy and almond.

My experience with filks (ha ha that's supposed to be fake milk but I think actually it's a genre of music) was that in every case they covered up some inherent other taste by making things very sweet. Has this gotten better?

I also like oat milk; didn't even know about environmental considerations. A pox on flavored faux milk!

In every grocery store in DC, "unsweetened" is always nearly out and every other flavor/type is nearly untouched. I wish at least one of these stores would get with the program and allocate 2-3x as much space to unsweetened as to every other kind.

Yeah, unsweetened oat milk is great because oats have a natural sweetness all their own.

It seems to be really hard to find unflavored versions of such things. I like unflavored soy milk to drink after biking and I can nearly never find it unless I go to the really big grocery store near my parents' place in Wisconsin.
