I went to see Art Spiegelman speak. I wish I had more time to tell you about it, but in the meantime, because of his talk I am now aware of this:

Photobucket

Did everyone else know and just not tell me?

P.S. Art Spiegelman is awesome.

P.P.S. So are my new thigh-high green-on-green striped kneesocks. They match my "Ceci n'est pas un pipe" t-shirt perfectly and I basically looked like a cartoon character today. (Appropriate, since I just drew four cartoons of myself because I'm an egomaniac.) I should have taken a picture.

Forget if I mentioned, but Marjane Satrapi said that Art Spiegelman's "Maus" was the book that showed her that comics were more than for kids and put it in her mind to make a comic.

Woo! I didn't know about that either!

Are you going to post the cartoons of yourself?!

I had no idea.

Also, green on green thigh highs!!! I don't suppose you'd like to send me a pair, it's not like we might accidentally wear them to the same event.

Well, I sure as heck knew and bought a copy as part of a birthday present a year ago. As for your not knowing, that's not my fault. I did my best to tell the world about it --- and lots of other fine comix reading for Jews (& non-Jews who like reading about them) at my Jewish comics forum - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ jewishcomics/message/721 I also have a blog at http://jewishcomics.blogspot.com, which gets updated about as often as the forum (usually with the same content). Go there, bookmark it, and drop in once in a while. I don't have a lot of spare time to post, but I've got enough stuff to talk about to keep me busy blogging for at least the next month or so. I probably don't have to tell you that the latest Holocaust related comix-like work that is getting to market is Canadian-made Judenhass by none other than the infamous / famous (depending on if you care about his rantings) Dave Sim. I think it's fine to talk about Joe Sacco's Palestine, but the work of others who have portrayed Israel should not be neglected. There's been enough published during its 60-year history that someone could discuss it for 40 minutes - with Powerpoint slides. And that someone would be me. In Cleveland. In June. More info about that coming to the blog (shameless plug #2).
