Is there anything* worse than motivational speakers?

I don't think there is. Maybe mimes, but it's a tough call.

* Well, anything short of genocide**.
** And people who nitpick about the definition of genocide.

Now I'm thinking about how motivational mimes might start coming to the workplace.

Genocide

In the immortal words of Eddie Izzard:
We think that if someone kills someone, that's murder, you go to prison. You kill 10 people, you go to Texas, they hit you with a brick, that's what they do. 20 people, you go to a hospital and they look at you through a small window forever. And over that, we can't deal with it. You know? If somebody's killed 100 thousand people, we're almost going, "Well done! You killed 100 thousand people?! You must get up very early in the morning! I can't even get down the gym! Your diary must look odd: Get up in the morning, death, death, death, death, death, lunch, death, death, death, afternoon tea, death, death, death, quick shower.

Actually, I remember your body language with much fondness. Less so your rants on instructors who rant on the Harris government :P.

Was this motivational speaking aimed at teenagers? Because, seriously, that shit is pointless.

Motivational speakers who are good at what they do are actually pretty awesome. There was one at my band camp and I still remember her because she was so hilarious. It was more like watching a stand up act than the stereotypical motivational speech.

How do you feel about a genocide targeting mimes and motivational speakers?

Am I really the first person to ask this?

for about a second i wanted to do a "motivational" speaking seminar for people who don't ever cry.
i wanted to motivate them to cry. and by the end of it, hopefully everyone would be crying.

I can't post it or my friend will get in trouble, but take a copy of my Be a Cog comp if you want to see THE scariest motivational speaker of all time. He's crazy! My friend had to spend two full work days taping the guy, and edited a highlights reel as revenge. Extremely revealing.

Worst motivational speakers generally though are, yes, the ones aimed at kids. I still shudder when I think of the conventional-wisdom geyser they drenched us with at a grade 12 student council conference. Almost enough to make me think student council was not the place for me; outrageous.

For the record, I know a really cool person who is also a god mime. So exceptions exist. (He's also a clown and a musician as well, and probably at least one other kind of artist on top of that. The first time I played a music gig with him, and heard him speak, it was more than a little freaky, because I'd known him for years but always in-character and silent.)

There's this person I knew in high school: a big-headed (no really, his head was big) jackass who talked a lot and thought he was hot shit. Then he became a born-again evangelistical xtian. And now he's attending preacher school. I think his sermons would beat movtivational speaker sermons any day.
