"What do we want?"

"No more walking around in circles, holding picket signs, across from the U.S. Consulate, which is closed because it's Saturday!"

"When do we want it?"

"NOW!"

I also seek a moratorium on shouting "SHAME!" as it applies to our ruling class. They have no shame. That's kind of the point, y/y?

OMG, this could be a rant about Seoul. There have been guards in front of the US Embassy since like, 9/11. Last time I was there, there were hot, hot SWAT team guys with their fancy equipment added to the menagerie. The US Embassy is THE place to demonstrate, even when the issue has nothing to do with the US.

I hear ya. I've started to hate every protest, not just the ones that are very obviously ineffective.

Do you think protests can actually affect social change or are they just a big waste of time?

protests maybe helps psych up and motivate the protestors, vent some anger, and be part of a like-minded community, like in a group therapy kind of way. on the other hand it might make some people bitter and burnt out if they go to a protest and expect that a system this powerful is gonna change just cause they and a few of their friends got together in front of the US consulate on a saturday to hold up signs... or cause no one is interested in buying there newsletter that is totally unrelated, at least not directly, to the event's cause :P

I just totally misread your icon as "I'd rather be fisting The Man", which, actually, would also be a darn fine icon.

At this point, it's pretty silly to go to the US Consulate to protest for Khadr's transfer to Canada... I mean if Canada ASKED for him, they would probably send him back here. So while the U.S. is pretty bad in this case, we can do better than this.

I hear that this protest was also going down to CSIS HQ or something, which also puzzled me. CSIS interrogated him, but so what? They don't have much of a say in his patriation.

Does Stephen Harper have an office in Toronto? Flaherty does, although that might be related to the fact that he's finance minister... But still. The protest should have been targeting Harper, not the U.S. It's too easy to target the U.S.

..

Observation: Abdurahman Khadr wasn't there, think he's been banished by the family?
