Last round of pictures, I promise. (Well, at least until the weekend if all goes well, but those won't be of London.)

I finally fucking have one.

I know you are all just dying to hear updates about how my cats are doing and to see cute pictures of them, etc.

So they are co-existing quite well! Given that it's only been a week. The hissing has almost entirely ceased, and Sabot is coming a bit out of her shell, although Cocoa is obviously still the reigning queen of the household. See below:

sabotandcocoa

Cats are not to scale. Sabot is about half the size of Cocoa. She is a tiny cat of tiny, though she has filled out a teensy bit due to eating.

I finally managed to take a good picture of Sabot where you can see her properly:

sabot

She is on a red thing, of course, because she knows that she is an anarkitty and barely dodged being named Pussy Riot.

I have, admittedly, as of late, been that person who, at parties, pulls out her cellphone to show pictures of her cats. But they are really great! I mean, look at how cute my cats are.

I mean, I've been up to other things too, but those other things are not cute and fluffy.

As you know, pickling is my ENTIRE LIFE right now.* I've been using the vinegar technique so far, with the first batch of pickles due in a few days, but I decided to try to fermentation method as well. The advantage of fermentation (besides that they're supposedly tastier) is that the pickling process is way faster—3 to 10 days as opposed to a month. Mine looked to be fermenting like hell, so I tried the jar I made three days ago.

Verdict: It tastes like a full sour pickle! I tried another one just to be sure, though.

Guys? Guys? I made actual pickles, aren't you proud of me?

Here's what my fridge looks like at the moment:

I'm hoping the thunderstorm last night, which is giving me a terrible migraine, spurred Audrey II back into over-production. I collected about a half-jar's worth of cucumbers yesterday, and I'd like to do another jar of the fermented ones. Possibly pickled jalapenos as well; I have a lot of jalapenos.

Those of you who are familiar with fermenting things: Is it okay to boil the water to make the salt dissolve faster? That was my one issue with the method: It took forever to dissolve the salt, and the first time I tried, Marinetti started drinking the salt water and I had to start again.

PICKLES!

* Cucumbers. My liver. Whatever.

It's a day early for Caturday, but we're still celebrating the first day of being able to open the windows in my house. Yay!

Proof that my neighbourhood is the most adorbs:

Doorbell rings. It's my next door neighbour—the one I don't see very often. With a tin of cookies for me. Of course, I was planning on dropping by in a few days with a tin of cookies for her and her husband. So I saved a trip next door! (And since they're not often home and may well be going away, it worked out well that I could give them to her now.) We both found it pretty funny, especially because we'd both baked ginger cookies.

I am predicting that I will end up with roughly the same amount of cookies that I made owing to everyone being on a baking spree lately.
sabotabby: raccoon anarchy symbol (fridge)
In my effort to be less of a terrible person and spread a little joy in the world, I went on a month-and-a-half long baking spree to make Christmas cookies for my whole department, my EA, and three of my neighbours. As of today, I'm finally done.

I also made ninjabread cookies, but I'm having a hard time decorating them because, while little kids can decorate gingerbread cookies and while I have not insignificant levels of artistic ability, I fail at cookie and cake decorating forever. Besides, they weren't going to fit in the tins. So those went back in the freezer for my next party or whenever I figure out gingerbread icing.

And here are the cats chilling on my sofa:

Would you like to see a bunch of cat pictures and decorator porn? Why, of course you would!

So this is how my basement looked before. Not ugly, but certainly not very exciting either:

Now for more cats. )

I have been off the intertubes for just over a day for reasons*. Did you miss me? Did you even notice?

Anyway I returned to find LJ all different now. But I actually like the new editor. It lets you change colours without having to memorize or look up the hex code. I approve! And it has spoiler tags, which is also cute.

By the way, the above colours are a crappy hex version of the colour scheme in my basement. Which is awesome. I don't think I've ever seen an awesomer basement and it's not even complete yet.

I still hate the icon interface, though.

* I got my basement painted and now it looks all cool, but the modem and router had to be disconnected in order to do so. Pictures to come after Saturday for reasons.**

Are you sick of pictures of my house yet?

Because the renos are done, the pictures are hung, and I'm pretty stoked with the results.

design geekery )

So that's my pad! Still a few little things to do, plus the basement (which is going to have to be repainted, but I eventually want to replace the futon with something not so ugly), but overall I think it's looking awesome.

Hey, would you all like to see what I do when I am on sick leave and I start turning into a kooky housewife? Of course you do.

So this lamp, I've had since I was a little kid. It's not that exciting. My childhood best friend's father made it and gave it to me, so it's kind of sentimental, but basically it's a boring lamp.

Here's my cat facepalming:

I'm also working on a collage thing but it doesn't look like much yet. Oh, and a book, but that's paid work.

UM HI WHO ARE YOU? YOU DO NOT LIVE HERE.

WTF kitten? )
sabotabby: raccoon anarchy symbol (clean all the things)
I am done! Well, pretty much done. I think. The perfectionist in me is not quite willing to be finished, but for now I think I can live with it.

So the last piece to do was my grandmother's desk. I have lots of vague memories of it from my childhood, but it's been in storage for a few years and I couldn't exactly remember what it looked like.

cut for loads of pictures )

I AM DONE WITH THE TEAL AND THIS IS VERY EXCITING AND YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED FOR ME

*ahem*

I am not entirely done with the teal, actually, because the desk is going to have some teal accents. But I have finished the stage where my entirely life is covered in teal. I now have a teal nightstand, three teal bookshelves, and a teal shelf that is going to hold the overflow from my bookshelves until a more permanent solution can be arranged.

do you want to see pictures? )

Anyway, now I'm starting on the four kitchen chairs. One is sanded and primed; the others await awesomeification. They're probably going to take forever because there are details. They will look rad, though. I think I'm on schedule to have all of the furniture done before the move, unless the desk presents unforeseen challenges.

When I sit back and think about it, I'm rather pleased with myself. I could have dropped a metric fuck-ton of money on furniture, or I could have hauled my existing furniture and felt perpetually dissatisfied with it. Instead I am completely insane. But with cool-looking furniture.

I have been a busy [livejournal.com profile] sabotabby this weekend.

I went to see Tomboyfriend's EP launch on Friday night, which was fabulous. It was also the premiere of [livejournal.com profile] culpster's video for "Hot Divorcee":

Fitness and Vag Halen opened. Both of them were highly entertaining but I was especially into Vag Halen. As some of you may know, I have a serious weakness for hair metal. It's a guilty pleasure. If the same songs are covered by talented women, it's all the pleasure without the guilt.

I just returned from seeing Hercules, Handel's almost-opera. It was also really amazing. [livejournal.com profile] minussmile and I had gallery seats for the first act (until we swiped better seats at intermission) so it was all bald spots and vowels. I've never been to Koerner Hall before and the acoustics are spectacular.

In between all of this activity, and school, I have been packing and painting all the things. I am pleased to announce that the first project in Operation Teal has been completed!

Another kind-of-guilty pleasure I have is for shabby chic. I don't like the all-white look (for me—I like it for other people, but I can't imagine living in it), but I like the distressed look with splashes of colour. The rooms in my new place are quite small, which means that my usual decorating method of bold, dark wall colours will not work. Accordingly, my furniture is going to be dramatic instead.

lots of furniture photos under the cut )

Finally, some people have requested a picture of the Black Coat of Swoop, so here I am in full-on winter gear: camwhoreage )

Okay, now off to bed—a bookshelf awaits in my kitchen for tomorrow morning.
sabotabby: raccoon anarchy symbol (clean all the things)
I have acquired ridiculous amounts of teal paint for nefarious purposes.

By nefarious purposes, I mean painting furniture to match my hair.

Yes, I am punk rock Martha Stewart, why do you ask?
